The Role of the Pastor

Someone during a fellowship meeting asked, “what is the work of the pastor?”

John 21vs 15-17

So when they had eaten breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me more than these?”

He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.”

He said to him, “Feed My lambs.”

16 He said to him again a second time, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?”

He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.”

He said to him, “Tend My sheep.”

17 He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?” Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, “Do you love Me?”

And he said to Him, “Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You.”

Jesus said to him, “Feed My sheep.

Ephesians 4vs 11-15

And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers,

12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ,

13 till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ;

14 that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting,

1Corinthians 3vs 1-3

And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual people but as to carnal, as to babes in Christ.

2 I fed you with milk and not with solid food; for until now you were not able to receive it, and even now you are still not able;

3 for you are still carnal. For where there are envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not carnal and behaving like mere men?

1Peter 2vs 2

As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

Acts 6vs 2-4

Then the twelve summoned the multitude of the disciples and said, “It is not desirable that we should leave the word of God and serve tables.

3 Therefore, brethren, seek out from among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business;

4 but we will give ourselves continually to prayer and to the ministry of the word.”

2Timothy 2vs 1-3

You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.

2 And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.

3 You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.

The Pastor follows the Word, He is a man of the Word!

1 Timothy 3vs 15

“but if I am delayed, I write so that you may know how you ought to conduct yourself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and [a]ground of the truth.”

The church isn’t a democratic organisation, regardless of what the world thinks.

There’s a pattern, precepts/ examples and standards the Church is expected to follow.

The pastor is a teacher, a nurturer, a shepherd of a flock- the flock of Christ Jesus our Savior.

The Pastor helps you grow in the knowledge of the Word of God and  His Will for your life.

He is a man of discipline, who upholds discipline and love.

Hebrews 13vs 7, 17

“Remember those who rule over you, who have spoken the word of God to you, whose faith follow, considering the outcome of their conduct.”

Vs 17

“Obey those who rule over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account. Let them do so with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you.”

The Pastor watches you grow to a point you are responsible enough to take on responsibilities-signs of a growing believer.

He helps you identify your place and spiritual endowment,

You find purpose because you are accountable to your pastor and the church.

He has a spiritual oversight. He watches over you.

Therefore, as a believer, someone must be responsible for your life. Don’t jump from one place to the other and then nobody is watching over you!

Be stable and grow!

Stability births growth,

Stability birthday accountability,

Stability births reliability,

Stability births readiness for spiritual responsibilities and impact.

So next time you see your pastors, appreciate them! And keep them in your prayers.
